Goodbye Search

Update

Some unfortunate news this time. Starting today, you can no longer search for other iRacing members on Nyoom. You can now only view your own stats.

Why?

iRacing recently updated its terms for third-party developers. Sites like Nyoom now "may not display, publish, or otherwise expose a member's display name or customer identifier (ex. custid) in any context without that member's explicit, affirmative, and revocable consent."

Searching for another iRacing member means displaying their name and customer ID without them ever agreeing to it, so search had to go. The only alternative I could think of was having everyone who logs in consent to letting other users see their name and ID. But most iRacing members don't use Nyoom, so nearly every stats page you visited would just be blocked, which felt worse than not having search at all.

I'd much rather keep Nyoom running and keep improving how you view your own stats and progression within iRacing's rules than risk losing access to their data altogether.

What Changed

  • My Stats has a new home. Your stats now live at nyoom.app/my-stats. Any old search links, including ones someone shared with you, now take you to your own stats instead.
  • Search is gone. The search bar, the search page, and the iRacing Pros showcase have all been removed.
  • No more winner names in Last 10 Races. That column showed other drivers' names, so it's been removed. When you win a race, the trophy now shows up next to your finishing position instead. To help make up for it, each race now has a Results button that opens that race's full results on iRacing.
  • A consent notice when you sign in. Nyoom still shows your own name and customer ID back to you, so the sign-in button now spells out that you're agreeing to that. You can take it back anytime by signing out or disconnecting Nyoom in your iRacing Connected Apps.

The privacy page has been updated to match these changes.

This Sucks

I know dude. Trust me, I hate this. Especially since search is how most of you used the site. Rest assured, the goal of making your own stats faster and easier to dig into hasn't changed, and the new features I mentioned in the Summer Refresher are still on the way.
